Buy: does it change the number of shares?
On the passbook, a buy line reads: named in the sources: report
Buying shares on the Age Pension
Buying shares is one of the events the Guide to Social Security Law lists for Age Pension recipients to notify within 14 days, whether you or your partner bought.
Worked example
Bought 400 EXA, taking the holding from 1,000 to 1,400, on Wed 2 Sep 2026. Day 14 is Wed 16 Sep 2026, a working day, so the report-by date is Wed 16 Sep 2026 (national holidays only; set your state and its public holidays move it too). A buy is named in the sources, so this is a change to report, and the form total for EXA becomes 1,400.
The rules behind it
For a buy line: Buying or selling shares · The total number of shares · The 14 days. Sources: Services Australia, change of circumstances; Services Australia, managing your Age Pension payment; Services Australia, online account help for updating shares; Guide to Social Security Law 3.10.4.10; Guide to Social Security Law 3.4.1.50.
The rule. Report a change in shares within 14 days. Named in the sources: a buy, a sale, bonus shares. Any other change to the total number of shares the form asks for: report or confirm. A price movement is not on the list; listed shares are revalued on 20 March and 20 September. Every rule and its source.
What it takes. Trade lines only: date, code, buy or sell, quantity. Recognised account and holder numbers are removed; nothing leaves your browser until you save.
