Selling one share and buying another
I sold one holding and bought another for the same amount. Do I report it?
Yes, both lines. Buying and selling shares are each events to notify within 14 days, and the shares form holds each code with its own total, so the old code goes and the new one arrives even when the value is unchanged. Source: Guide to Social Security Law 3.4.1.50; Services Australia, online account help for updating shares, read 28 Sep 2026.
Worked example
A couple sells 1,300 EXB jointly and buys 1,250 EXJ the next day with the proceeds, the first of the two on Wed 16 Sep 2026. Day 14 is Wed 30 Sep 2026, a working day, so the report-by date is Wed 30 Sep 2026 (national holidays only; set your state and its public holidays move it too). The EXJ buy on the next day is due one day later. Both lines are raised under finding 4, and the EXB total goes to 0.
The event classes
The rule. Report a change in shares within 14 days. Named in the sources: a buy, a sale, bonus shares. Any other change to the total number of shares the form asks for: report or confirm. A price movement is not on the list; listed shares are revalued on 20 March and 20 September. Every rule and its source.
What it takes. Trade lines only: date, code, buy or sell, quantity. Recognised account and holder numbers are removed; nothing leaves your browser until you save.
