What counts as a change in the number of shares
Any line that adds or removes shares: a buy, a sale, bonus shares, a dividend reinvestment allocation, a split or consolidation, demerger or scheme scrip received, a holding removed by a takeover or delisting, and a transfer in or out. A cash dividend and a price or valuation line leave the number unchanged. Source: Services Australia, online account help for updating shares; Guide to Social Security Law 3.4.1.50, read 28 Sep 2026.
Worked example
In one week a history shows a buy of 150 EXG, a cash dividend on EXA and a price line for EXC; only the buy is dated, the first on Thu 20 Aug 2026. Day 14 is Thu 3 Sep 2026, a working day, so the report-by date is Thu 3 Sep 2026 (national holidays only; set your state and its public holidays move it too). The dividend and the price line are listed once as not a change in the number of shares.
The event classes
The rule. Report a change in shares within 14 days. Named in the sources: a buy, a sale, bonus shares. Any other change to the total number of shares the form asks for: report or confirm. A price movement is not on the list; listed shares are revalued on 20 March and 20 September. Every rule and its source.
